There was an interesting development in Councilmember Anthony Becker’s felony perjury trial this week.
District Attorney Jason Malinsky filed a motion to subpoena evidence from the City about the 49ers’ independent expenditure campaign to help re-elect Suds Jain in District 5 and support George Guerra in District 6.
This is interesting because the information is publicly available. This has led to some buzz in the local political and legal communities.
It looks like the prosecutors see some value in the information. That’s why they asked for the information via a subpoena according to some legal experts.
Judge Javier Alcala granted the subpoena but he did not make a final decision about whether or not the evidence will be allowed in the trial.
One local attorney believes that there must be additional evidence the prosecution team is aware of. Another attorney suggested bribery may be part of the case.
Jain is being helped in his campaign by the team’s independent expenditure. They have put $250,000 behind him so far.
In 2020, when Jain was first elected to the City Council, the 49ers backed him with $1 million. Both are astronomical amounts of money for Santa Clara elections.
Jain had lost his previous races for Council when he had no support from the team.
While on the Council, Jain repaid the team by voting for every request they’ve made to the City. He changed the stadium curfew at their request. He voted to settle lawsuits that give the 49ers millions in benefits at the expense of Santa Clara taxpayers.
Jain also voted to fire a City Manager and City Attorney because the team wanted them “gone,” according to him.
Jain is now a witness in the Becker trial that’s starting at the end of the month.
“Maybe the team is worried about what he might say or where he can point fingers,” said one local attorney who asked for anonymity for professional reasons.
A local community leader disagreed: “It looks like a payback. But I’m not sure what’s worse.”
According to information on Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics website, here’s the definition of a bribe:
A bribe occurs when something of value is conferred on a public official in exchange for a promise of official action (or inaction). Asking for official favors by a briber, asking for a bribe by a public official, and receiving a bribe by an official are all illegal activities.
Guerra is currently a candidate for District 6 so he’s technically not an elected official and the legal definition of bribe can’t apply to him – unless he gets elected.
But one source told us that he might be vulnerable from his time as a Parks and Rec Commissioner. That’s when Guerra seemed to have insider information about the Becker-led effort to fire City Manager Deanna Santana.
Guerra’s text messages discovered in a public records act request show that he has been deceptive with Santa Clara News Online and others in the community about his friendly relationship with Becker.

James Rowen AKA Matt Dillon owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in a defamation case. He constantly tries to deceive people. The “young woman” he refers to is his niece who was dropping f-bombs. I have witnesses. The guy selling fish next to me was very sympathetic to me afterwards. It is clear to me now after the strange interaction that she does share genes with Rowen.
She was only dropping f-bombs? You deserve that and many more expletives that aren’t appropriate here.
Technically it’s now 40 days until November 5th.
With each hour passing we are just that much closer to getting our City back.
If I was the 49er 5+ I would be really concerned.
With each passing year the residents have been picking up more and more cost of running one company. By the way, what has that gotten us so far?
Not even a Thank You…. Instead we have now gotten a Grand Jury Investigations, and out of that one of the 49ers 5+ is now slated to go to trial for Felony Perjury.
If that wasn’t bad enough, we also have constant finger pointing, and name calling.
But wait, it’s election time. The gloves come off, and now the full media Circus has been dispatched onto our little City.
Now on a daily basis Lies, Lies, Lies and from multiple angle. And those are just the ones we are being told.
Yup that’s what this has gotten us. It’s not the 49ers fault, heck no, it is our Mayor’s and lone City Councilmember’s fault.
You know that little voting thing where Lisa Gillmor and Kathy Watanabe have been outvoted ever single time any vote involving the 49ers has come up.
Yes that one.
At least, that’s what the Media is telling me.
Now the bad news.
Santa Clara could be looking at Bankruptcy in the very near future.
That alone is a scary statement.
How / Why?
If the World Cup (FIFA) & Super Bowl cost that are shrouded in secrecy are allowed to move forward with no oversight beyond the 49er5+, Santa Clara could join a very short list of Cities that have had to file Bankruptcy.
The current Santa Clara City Manager, Santa Clara City Attorney will need to be grouped with the 5 current 49er Council Members as being complicit in that action, if it is allowed to continue.
But even the stupidest parasite does not kill its host, why would the the 49er5+ do this….
Santa Clara this is serious now.

It’s not news that Jed and his puppets are going around town bribing people to run for city council or even bribing neighbors to find candidates to run. 49er employees are sitting on our boards, attending our local meetings, stalking our schools and they are manipulating and poaching people to run for city council.
Hey Suds, 49k from a group that will actually bring a benefit to Santa Clara is 20% of what your sugar daddy Jed put up to support you and 5% of his total spend on this election so far. This reminds me of the old saying, “people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” but you continue to do this anyway as you just can’t help yourself. I’m enjoying my popcorn while reading this.

Ha ha ha, I live in Santa Clara, I really like our City and its diverse culture. We have great neighborhoods and many of you participate in city events that help our community grow. Now that you all feel good let’s talk about the DIRT. People running for Office like our City Council positions need to be HONEST, have INTEGRITY and above all REPRESENT the CITIZENS of Santa Clara. NOT any businesses such as the 49ers or any special groups of people who miss the deadlines to obtain financial support from our city or those who are running for office and attempt to do a runaround of the City’s requirements to request financial support after the closing filing date. Personally I’d rather ask High School Seniors who probably have a better understanding of our local government operations and see if they would like to run for City Council then “ these few” current and new potential member who obviously have dirt on them and are more concerned about supporting their “ special friends” then actually representing all of U.S. citizens in Santa Clara. But hey I’m just one dumb citizen who recognizes that some people should NOT be running or voted back in Office again.

Perhaps this sloppy “reporting” was the reason he was fired from the Santa Clara Weekly. Interesting that his sources are usually vague anonymous sources : A local community leader disagreed” . Here Haugh tells 2 lies which he well knows are not true.
I did not vote to fire the previous City Manager, Deanna Santana and he knows that.
This statement is wrong: “Jain had lost his previous races for Council “. I ran only once in 2016 before winning in 2020. Obviously Haugh is trying again to mislead his readers.
Ending the curfew made perfect sense and was one of my campaign goals. We would not have had Beyonce nor the Rolling Stones before ending the curfew. As was stated in the last council meeting, the KPMG audited financial report showed that the non-NFL event profit for the year ending March 31, 2024 was $8.27 million which mostly came from ticketed events like concerts.
I worked hard to oppose building a stadium in Santa Clara and am now working hard to make sure that we make lots of money for the City. The settlement will put over $20 million in the general fund over the next two years.
Finally, Robert Haugh avoids mentioning the campaign committee formed by the Related Cos to support Lisa Gillmor’s preferred candidates: “Committee to Elect Chandra, ONeill, Kertes, and Cox to City Council 2024, Sponsored by Related Santa Clara, LLC” to which Related Santa Clara LLC(Katherine Venezia) Santa Clara, CA 95054 contributed $49,000.
