Santa Clara City Council Preview: David’s Restaurant Litigation and Routine Items

Tomorrow’s Santa Clara City Council meeting includes mostly routine items and proclamations. 

Here are the agendized items:

  • Recognition of funds raised to benefit local programs from the 2024 Santa Clara Historic Home Tour

  • Proclamation of May 1, 2025, as Law Day in the City of Santa Clara, including recognition of the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center at Santa Clara University for their contribution of Pro Bono Legal Services.
  • Adopt Updated Definitions for Field User Categories and Field User Priorities of Use and Adopt a Resolution incorporating the Updated Recreation Fields and Turf Areas Reservations: Practice & Games fees into the Proposed FY 2025/26 Municipal Fee Schedule.
  • Public Hearing: Action on the Adoption of the Proposed FY 2025/26 Municipal Fee Schedule
  • PUBLIC HEARING: Action on a General Plan Text Amendment for the 2023-2031 Housing Element Sites Inventory List to remove 4701 Patrick Henry Drive, commonly referred to as the “Great America Technology Park,” and to add the Development Site located at 3005 Democracy Way, commonly known as the “Mission Point” site.

    Your WORSHIP of “May 1st,” which you pawn off on a great U.S. WW2 General that defeated ideologies, such as yours, TRULY embrace “May Day.”

    May 1st as “May Day” is celebrated by COMMUNISTS, including RUSSIA (public holiday), which CSC whole-heartily embraces.

    First amendment and free speech smokes out ill-defined ideas, such as those set forth by CSC (“Communist of Santa Clara”).

  3. “Silence Dogood” is a pseudonym used by Benjamin Franklin in the 1700s, when he worked as an apprentice in his brother’s Boston print shop. Franklin owned enslaved people and profited from the slave trade by advertising the sale of slaves and runaway notices in his newspaper, the Pennsylvania Gazette. He later became a vocal opponent of slavery, writing against it and supporting the abolitionist cause, serving as president of the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery, and advocating for its goals. Although Franklin presented petitions to Congress advocating for the abolition of slavery, he never emancipated any of the enslaved people in his household while he was alive, instead making a provision for their freedom in his will. – A law for thee, but not for me. :/

    While the 1700s Silence Doogood was a complicated figure; the person using the same pseudonym, Silence Dogood, on SCNO is a simpleton.

    The Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center does not “promote trafficking”; it supports survivors/victims of human trafficking with free legal services. Do you know who else supports survivors/victims of human trafficking? Santa Clara Police Department, Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and 99% of Americans who know how to read and comprehend. From a January 2023 City of Santa Clara news release: “Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery that exploits men, women, and children worldwide, including in the Bay Area. The Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) works closely with the District Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation to stop human trafficking – not only because of the personal and psychological toll it takes on society, but because it also facilitates the illegal movement of immigrants across borders and provides a ready source of income for organized crime groups and terrorists.” https://www.santaclaraca.gov/Home/Components/News/News/44253/95?

    In case there are others as ignorant and illiterate as Silence Dogood, let me break it down for you…
    1) The Trafficking Victims Protection Act is a Federal Law that was passed by Congress in 2000. Bill Clinton, a Democrat, was President of the U.S., but the U.S. Congress that passed the law was majority Republican.     2) The average age of trafficking victims is 13 years old. 80% of them are girls used as sex slaves. https://togetherfreedom.org/trafficking-facts-statistics/
    3) The TVPA allows people who have been trafficked into or within the US to remain in the country for 4 years. The T visa was created in the hope that by offering survivors a way to stay in the US lawfully, they would be less afraid to come forward and report their trafficking to authorities.
    4) In partnership, law enforcement agencies work together to combat human trafficking while non-profit organizations like the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center provide legal assistance to these victims at no cost (aka pro bono).

    The commenter, Silence Dogood, uses phrases like “extreme existential threat” and “proclaim virtuosity” to try and sound intelligent when s/he is truly ignorant. And claiming to be a Catholic, accusing a Catholic university’s non-profit law center of supporting human trafficking? What an idiot.

    Across the United States of America, “National Law Day” is recognized on May 1st. It was established by the American Bar Association in 1957 and proclaimed by President Dwight D.     Locally, the Santa Clara County Superior Court and the Santa Clara County Bar Association are holding various events. Tonight (Apr 29), the Santa Clara City Council will recognize Santa Clara University’s Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center for their compassionate work and pro bono representation of those forced into human slavery. Anyone attending tonight’s Council Meeting should loudly applaud the Council’s recognition of the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center and vocally oppose those like Silence Dogood who may spew ignorant opposition.

    • Your intent is understood. Could be true. Original DeBartelos did, however, donate to Notre Dame to fund the Marie P. DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, which funds questionable performing arts. Can’t conclude that York is an Anti-Semite.

      Regardless, Santa Clarans know Jed York IS A Trust-Fund Baby (i.e., got into Notre Dame because family ‘donated’ to Notre Dame). NEVER did Jed York actually do an honest day’s work.

      An extreme existential threat is Santa Clara’s council promotion of Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center at Santa Clara University…. That promotes trafficking….

      !!! Sad. They cause a crime and then proclaim virtuosity to stop the crime.
