The Santa Clara City Council made two commission appointments Monday night during a special meeting.
Kaushal Varshney was selected to serve a full term on the Historical and Landmarks Commission, which runs through June 30, 2029.
Varshney had also applied for the Parks and Recreation Commission seat.
The Council also appointed Edward A. Souza to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a full term ending June 30, 2029.
In the event of a vacancy, Monique Hovery-Coate will serve as an alternate.
The City received a strong field of applicants for both commissions. The Council interviewed candidates during the public meeting before voting on the appointments.
Only five City Councilmembers participated in the selection process. Vice Mayor Kelly Cox and Councilmember Kevin Park were absent.
