Notices about the event have been circulating, but one crucial detail is missing: the plan was originally proposed and is being pushed by Councilmember Suds Jain, who represents the area.
He’s been publicly criticized for the stupidity of his idea, and some community leaders think Jain has a personal vendetta.
The plan, which has drawn lots of negative reactions, could significantly alter parking availability around Franklin Square and the Post Office. It will impact both businesses and residents.
As City officials seek public input, questions remain about how this proposal gained traction without clear community discussion.
While the City is urging residents to come forward with their views on the parking changes, City communication fails to mention that Jain is the driving force behind the idea. This violates the City’s desire to be transparent, according to some Old Quad residents.

In a deeply disappointing move, City Manager Jovan Grogan and Councilmember Suds Jain are advancing a proposal to install parking meters at the small, struggling downtown Franklin Square. This punishes local residents and businesses instead of addressing the real financial threats to our city.
This is not about revitalization. It is a targeted effort to extract money from the very people who shop, work, and live here, people already facing high costs and limited support. Meanwhile, large special interests that owe our city millions of dollars are being ignored. Where is the accountability?
Santa Clara is not broke. We are simply being mismanaged by those who would rather nickel and dime our neighborhoods than confront powerful entities who have filled their election campaigns with millions, and also failed to meet their financial obligations to our city.
This is not leadership. This is cowardice and misdirection. The people of Santa Clara deserve transparency, fairness, and the courage to take on special interests, not schemes that burden the community to fill budget gaps created by political favoritism.
We see what is happening City Manager Grogan and Councilmember Jain, and we will not stay silent.
Thanks for shining light on who’s behind this idiotic plan. Not one positive thing has been said to support it. Jain doesn’t know how to do the job he was elected twice to do. Remember this is the rocket scientist who forced the elected police chief issue on ballot wasting $500k! And it failed just like this crazy issue will fail!
This idea will be impact the small businesses at the mall, terrible idea, these businesses just barely get by now and adding parking will drive customers away. I go there a couple times a month for farmers market, restaurant or to get my nails done but would not pay for parking. that is crazy idea.
