The Suds Jain Recall Campaign continued to gather signatures at the Santa Clara Farmers’ Market during Super Bowl weekend.
Santa Clara News Online captured some of the activity with the photos below.
According to lead organizer David Kertes, he’s hearing more residents complain about the recent, major pay raise given to City Manager Jovan Grogan.
Jain was the key vote that made Grogan the third highest paid City Manager in the state, with total annual compensation over $630,000.
Here are some quotes from residents who signed or visited the table:
- “When Santa Clara’s city manager makes more than the President, the Governor, and most Silicon Valley CEOs, residents have every right to ask: who’s negotiating for us?”
- “When City Hall treats millions like loose change, residents start looking for new leadership.”
- “This isn’t partisan. It’s pocketbook. And people know when their pocketbook’s being picked.”
- “If you don’t show up for the fields, the seniors, or the taxpayers’ spending, who exactly are you showing up for?”
- “Approving pay above the President and most CEOs sends the wrong message.”

When people hear what is happening they are pretty angry. You can’t make this stuff up; firing a city atty and city mgr because they stood up to Jed York in favor of residents? I ask people how much they paid to park at the Farmer’s Market and they look at me like I’m crazy. I don’t blame them but I explain why it is Suds that is crazy. We don’t need more voters, we need more voters that are informed. JMEO.
Last Tuesday Anthony Becker left gorging on t
99 cent hot dogs to launch a ten minute diatribe
What’s interesting and encouraging is when we get out there.
Getting to meet fellow residents and helping our City where we can has always been a goal of mine.
Bottomline….
We need more people just willing to knock on doors so to speak.
If you want to help, please make yourself known.
We are all busy people… I myself have only so far been able to get out twice so far to help. I’m not done.
If you are interested in helping, just let us know. My email is listed… hint, hint.
We are powerful together, and our City is worth the effort for sure.
