Free Comic Book Day is returning to Santa Clara.
Residents can visit any Santa Clara City Library branch on Saturday, May 2, 2026, to pick up free comic books while supplies last.
The annual event is one of the biggest promotions in the comic book industry. It is designed to introduce new readers to comics and graphic novels, while also giving longtime fans a chance to discover new titles.
Santa Clara libraries will offer a selection of comics for children, teens, and adults. Residents who do not see the giveaway area can ask library staff for help.
The library is also encouraging visitors to use their library cards to check out graphic novels from the library’s curated shelves.
Free Comic Book Day is based on a simple idea: there is a comic for everyone. That includes young readers, casual fans, longtime collectors, and adults who may not have picked up a comic book in years.
The Santa Clara event is being held with help from Illusive Comics & Games, which has supported the local celebration for years.
The event is also supported by the Santa Clara City Foundation and Friends.
Santa Clara’s comic book programming will continue later this year. The City Library is planning Santa Clara Comic-Con on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. More information is available at sclibrary.org/comic-con.

This event was started by my Cousin Joe Field. At the time he was the President of a group called ComicPro, and just thought it would be a really fun and simple way to celebrate his industry. Heck that was close to 25 years ago!!
To top it off, he still owns a really nice Comic Book store in Concord called Flying Colors.
