Santa Clara residents have until Monday, May 11, at 5 p.m. to apply for openings on two City commissions.
The City is seeking applicants for one seat on the Civil Service Commission and two seats on the Historical and Landmarks Commission.
The Civil Service Commission helps oversee the City’s civil service system. The commission is responsible for helping ensure that qualified people are appointed to City service. It also acts as a Board of Review for petitions from civil service employees and applicants.
The Historical and Landmarks Commission advises the City Council on historical places and landmarks. Its work includes issues involving the preservation of historical sites, the naming and renaming of streets and museums, and the marking of historical landmarks and places.
Santa Clara’s commissions are advisory bodies that provide community input to the City Council.
Applicants generally must be Santa Clara residents. For the Civil Service Commission, applicants must also be registered voters and may not hold paid office with, or be employed by, the City of Santa Clara. The Historical and Landmarks Commission has similar eligibility requirements.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
