Santa Clara residents and drivers should expect major traffic impacts around Levi’s Stadium today, Tuesday, June 16, when Levi’s Stadium hosts its second FIFA World Cup match.

The City says safety and security requirements will force temporary closures of public roads and trails near the stadium. The biggest impact will be on Tasman Drive.

Residents who live or work near Levi’s Stadium should plan ahead. Delays are likely, especially in the hours before and after matches.

On June 16, Phase 1 closures run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tasman Drive will be closed from Great America Parkway to Calle Del Sol. The Stars and Stripes Slip Ramp will also be closed.

During that phase, drivers will be routed around the closure using Great America Way, Great America Parkway, Lafayette Street and Calle De Luna/Calle Del Sol.

Phase 2 begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 5 a.m. on June 17. The Tasman Drive closure will expand from Great America Parkway to Lick Mill Boulevard. Calle Del Sol will be closed to general traffic, and drivers will be directed to use Lick Mill Boulevard instead.

The City says local resident and business access will be maintained. Detours will be posted to give residents and businesses options to get around the closures.

A regional detour will also be posted in advance to direct drivers who do not have a local destination to use Highway 101, Highway 237 and other major roads.

The San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail will also be closed Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Cyclists will be detoured using Agnew Road, Lakeshore Drive, Gianera Street and Stars and Stripes Drive.

Pedestrians will be detoured to Mission College Boulevard and Great America Parkway.

Marie P. DeBartolo Way will remain closed through July 3. Access to areas east of the stadium will be provided through Stars and Stripes Drive.

Levi’s Stadium will host additional World Cup matches on June 19, June 22, June 25 and July 1. Similar closures are planned on those dates. On most match days, Tasman Drive will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.
