AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week — Stadium Authority Boardmember Kathy Watanabe and the 49ers Exec Jim Mercurio

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award:

Stadium Authority Boardmember Kathy Watanabe and Northside resident had the best quote at Wednesday’s meeting:

Taylor Swift doesn’t live in the Northside. U2 doesn’t live in the Northside. They all get to go home. But the people are still there and the people have to deal with the repercussions of events going until 11 o’clock at night, families trying to go to sleep, dealing with traffic, helicopters, all kinds of issues.”

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

Manager/49er exec Jim Mercurio apparently doesn’t know about State wage laws. The Stadium Authority Executive Director Deanna Santana sent the team a Notice of Breach of Agreement. It’s a pretty big deal. And she called Mercurio to discuss it.  But “there just wasn’t that knowledge base to even know how to comply,” said Santana. Double wow.

  1. Robert – can you ask the nice person who said he couldn’t find my name as registared to vote in Santa Clara? I’d like to know how he (she?) did that. It gave me the feels to know somone cared enuf about me to look me up.

  2. Kathy Wantanabe has been the guardian of the north side for years. She’s very well integrated in her district and speaks well for them.
I can’t imagine having a council person with Kathy’s tenacity. Ours is a dud and puts the niners first. We got left out in the cold when the redistricting occurred. So much for redistricting.
Thanks for standing up for your peeps.
