AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week — Stan’s Donuts and the Mercury News

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award:

The legendary Santa Clara business Stan’s Donuts has been making great donuts since 1959. Good thing they have a loyal customer base because it’ll help them through the COVID-19 crisis.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

What won’t help Stan’s is bad reporting. The Mercury News wrote that the business was closing. But it was another Stan’s Donuts that was closing in Los Angeles!

The paper doesn’t really understand Santa Clara or any other city outside of San Jose. Maybe after the pandemic is over, their editors and reporters should visit great Mission City establishments like Stan’s to get a new perspective.

  1. Don’t hold your breath, Robert. The Murky will never ever say one damn good thing about Santa Clara. Any opportunity to throw stones or twist stories is the MO. Actually, the fact Murky won’t say anything positive is a good sign. Means Santa Clara is doing a good job! I will continue to read your column to read about the good in Santa Clara.
