PETITION: Stop the 49ers Back Room Deal with the Santa Clara City Council

By Burt Field, Stand Up for Santa Clara

The 49ers want to negotiate a legal settlement in a closed session with a City Council that they control. This is wrong.

In the interest of transparency and honesty, we strongly urge the City Council to:

  • Have the deal discussed in public, not in a back room.
  • Have independent experts evaluate the settlement.

Please sign the petition.

“The public has no reason to trust these numbers, and neither does the council,” said (Dr. Thomas) Shanks, who is working on a study of the ethical aspects of the city’s relations with the team.”

“One of the reasons the City has been at odds with the 49ers is because they refuse to share their accounting of stadium operations as required by our agreements … Today, it’s irresponsible for anyone to believe the 49ers’ settlement numbers without evidence.”– Former Santa Clara City Council member Teresa O’Neill
