Last Tuesday, Santa Clara News Online was watching the Santa Clara City Council meeting for important news stories.
If it wasn’t for a few loyal readers, we might have missed what one person wrote in a text: “Kevin Park’s dumbest idea of the year.”
During a discussion of the Citywide Clean Up Campaign, Councilmember Park commented that he had a great idea.
“No tourist site ever needs to make a souvenir item for that tourist site because you just have people who don’t want them anymore to return them,” said Park.
And you can just resell them.
Yup. That’s his great idea.
He described how people in Paris would return Golden Gate Bridge souvenirs to places where they sell Eiffel Towers.
“Then once a year, we would just have an exchange,” said Park seriously.
No one on the Council commented on Park’s idea. City staff was silent.

Park is not known for having much business expertise. But we’ll give him points for creativity.
We also will give him the Santa Clara News Online Jabroni Award.
At the next Council meeting, can someone ask Park if he knows where someone can exchange an I Love NY t-shirt with sweat stains in the armpits?

You were right in your comments on the San Jose Spotlight article calling attention to Kirk Vartan’s role in the Agrihood development and the glaring omission of his mention in the article. And to point out the general lack of responsibility that Anthony Becker has in the development.
But Anthony Becker did not claim credit for it. San Jose Spotlight is still doing him favors by quoting him speaking positively about the development but that does not mean that he is taking credit for it or even that they are giving him credit for it.
This is the part of the article where Becker is mentioned and quoted.
“Santa Clara Councilmember Anthony Becker, who represents the district where the development is located, has watched the project from its conception. He’s excited about the availability of affordable housing exclusively for seniors, because he has known seniors who had to decide between paying rent and eating three meals a day.
“This project is kind of like a beacon of hope for people like that,” Becker told San José Spotlight. “It’s also a beacon of hope for people like me who are low income, and people who are working class. These are projects that need to move forward.””
It was poor delivery because Park is the antithesis of funny and the mask does not help but this was Park joking.
Kevin Park was a laugh a minute. His idea machine was on overload. Hope the DA was watching and heard how Kevin thinks we need a new DA. 🙄
