City Council Preview: Lots of Routine Items; Bay FC Rental of Youth Soccer Park Fields

Tomorrow’s Santa Clara City Council meeting has a long agenda.

Here are the agendized items:

  • Joint Dinner Meeting with the City Council and the Cultural Commission
  • Proclamation of March as Red Cross Month
  • Proclamation of March as Youth Art Month
  • Proclamation of March as Endometriosis Awareness Month 
  • Public Hearing: 2024-2025 DRAFT Annual Action Plan for the Use of Federal Housing and Urban Development Grant Funds 
  • Public Hearing: Action on an Environmental Impact Report and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program, Rezone, and Vesting Tentative Subdivision Map for the property at 1957 Pruneridge Avenue to allow the development of 22 detached Single-Family residences and associated on- and off-site improvements – this is the former St. Mark’s Church site.
  • Action to approve introduction of an Ordinance readopting the expired sidewalk vendor Stadium Pilot Program with a new Sunset date and slightly expanded footprint
  • Informational report regarding Route Analysis for 115kV transmission line from Northern Receiving Station to Kifer Receiving Station
  • Discussion and Action on the License Agreement with Bay FC for the use of the soccer field at the Youth Soccer Park (YSP)

  1. Well, the other day I attended a City Meeting talking about “User Fee’s and Priority of use”.
    It was then explained to us, just how excited the City was to have potentially a new Professional Group using one of our fields.
    That new group is FC Bay Area Women’s Professional Soccer Team.
    The City was so excited, and did their best to explain just how great it will be.
    By the way… this Professional Team, with No Santa Clara Residents is going to move into our Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park to I guess practice?
    They are using San Jose State right now to practice, what’s wrong with that?

    Something is up here? Why would they spend $2 Million less than a year ago to develop their practice facility and locker rooms then decide to leave and go and take over our Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park???
    Notice it’s called Youth Soccer Park, that’s not a coincidence, that’s intentional.
    I raised my hand and offered to give a short history lesson.

    Just 12 years ago I heard another Pro Sport Team tell us all just how excited they were to partner with our City.
    At that time, no one really knew just how bad the NFL could mess with and screw with their Host Cities. Truthfully at this point, I now believe between the owners and teams it’s “A game within a game.” Winning that award is almost as important as winning the Super Bowl for the owners.
    So here is just a short list… Honeymoon stage type stuff for sure.
    1. Increased City Revenue
    2. No new taxes
    3. Good working partner with our City
    4. How they would never interfere with any event going on at our Youth Soccer Field
    5. Increased revenue would help us to offset other cost inside our City.
    6. On really busy dates for Youth Soccer, if Levi Stadium field was open, we could even schedule games there as well.
    7. Free use of Community Room inside Levi Stadium to host meetings
    8. Our local neighborhoods would be safe and clean
    9. Most importantly they would invest and build three new soccer fields, that would be equal or better to what we now have at the Youth Soccer Park.
    10. Jed York only speaks the truth. He is not a liar, you can trust him. Think Richard Nixon…..

    All Hail Jed… How did that all work out? Love history, as they say, you can look it up.

    So now, Bay FC is now knocking…. .

    All I said was, let’s “Pump the brakes a bit”. We now have some history dealing with a Pro League. Let’s move a bit slower than last time, as we still have 30 more years of dealing with a Pro NFL Team that just wants to take over our City.
    By the way, they still have not paid us a Performance Rent in over 4 years?
    They have adversely effected our local Government by spending Millions of dollars to get “Sock Puppets” elected.
    Al Davis is famous for saying “Just win Baby”
    Jed York is famous for saying “We are going to court”.
    Brian Doyle was 7-0 against Jed Baby…. well where is Mr. Doyle now?
    Now with all the litigation, our money is tied up in court now for years, with no end in sight.

    So is now the time to open the doors to another Pro Team? All because the 49ers refuse to pay us what they owe us? Hard one to justify for sure.
    Not to mention I have some serious questions as to why they are looking to even begin with?
