Yesterday, a federal bill to help develop worker cooperatives was announced at Santa Clara’s legendary pizza shop, A Slice of NY.
Santa Clara businessman and co-founder of the shop, Kirk Vartan, hosted the event that featured Congressman Ro Khanna who’s introducing the legislation in Washington, DC.
They were joined at the event by Mayor Lisa Gillmor. She worked with Vartan over five years ago to set up educational efforts in the Mission City for worker coops.
The efforts help business owners and their workers to create a structure for employee ownership as a succession option for a business.
Here’s the official text of the National Worker Cooperative Development and Support Act.
Here are some photos from the event.

This event is really what Santa Clara is all about. Helping businesses and creating jobs.
