Former Santa Clara City Attorney Brian Doyle has been warning Santa Clara taxpayers about huge possible losses from the 2026 Super Bowl and World Cup events.
According to a San Francisco Chronicle investigative report, it could cost $38 million.
Doyle has attended a few City Council meetings and written opinion pieces to raise his concerns.
But the 49er Five refused to allow Doyle time to publicly discuss his findings at a City Council meeting.
Councilmembers Anthony Becker, Raj Chahal, Suds Jain, Karen Hardy, and Kevin Park have voted against Doyle’s request twice.
In addition to the City Council, Doyle has been critical of City Attorney Glen Googins for keeping the documents secret.
Doyle has also documented how 49ers CEO Al Guido negotiated bad financial deals for the City while he had an illegal conflict of interest.
Now, Doyle is going online to discuss the $38 million loss that will have to be absorbed by the City’s general fund and the Stadium Authority.
The grassroots group Stand Up for Santa Clara is hosting the conversation with Doyle on Wednesday, October 30 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, November 3 at 4 p.m.

I proudly voted AGAINST the 49er 5 and AGAINST Kevin Park this last weekend—in person—at Santa Clara’s great Central Park library. As I cast my ‘paper ballot,” it was interesting to note (within about 20 minutes) that I overheard and witnessed that at least 2 persons were not qualified to vote, yet they were there to cast a vote, perhaps illegally or due to ignorance/incompetency.
There is comfort knowing that the poll workers are ensuring a fair election.
Also, I voted AGAINST Measure “I.” Was the letter “I” selected for Inflation or Idiocracy? I’ll vote to burden or enslave our children and our prosperity ONLY if the “adults” on city council get their crap together.
A swift and hearty wind blows against Suds, Park, Guerra, York, and all 49er 5 bums.

What the hell is going on with our City Council! If there is a possibility that WE as taxpayers may have to absorb in some way this huge loss of money then I do believe that the Mayor must call for a special meeting open to the public and allow those that have factual information to share and discuss our options. NO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.
I believe if there is an agency at the State level that can review and if necessary step in to monitor our City Council operations then we must contact that agency . I personally will be researching this and also contact our DA’s office. If any current or previous council member knew but hid the truth from us then if a law was broken they need to be prosecuted. City taxpayers, you can keep your heads in the sand or standup and protect our City from corruption. You choose.
Bankrupt the stadium authority
Will a 30-40 million dollar loss bankrupt the stadium authority. Would Jed York save the day and purchase the stadium under bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar. You bet he would. The stadium is a public building, all stadium contracts should be transparent and in the public view. If the 49er organization does not want transparency then hand over the management to a company that will.
That’s what the council wanted to do in 2018! There was a council majority to take back the mgmt agmt! City Council had leverage. Fast forward to 2022 and a council majority elected by Jed York and BOOM! They settle all the issues that would have allowed the 2018 council majority decision to take back the mgmt agmt. They just handed it all back to Jed and his minions. It’s been calculated that the settlement gave Jed a $150M ROI so far. So $2.5M is a mere drop in the bucket to his f****** PAC! What else does he want since he doesn’t get to appoint the police chief? Stay tuned.

I had a three dispute with Stsnd Up because I dissgreed with their tsctics. We resolved that disagreenent by talking to each other. 49ers will not talk

As a critic of Stand Up, I commend them for trying to get the word out. I will agrer with them on one bottom line. The stadoum costd are the money paid by the people. They should know.

Fear, uncertainty, doubt. Doyle, Gillmor, and the SCPOA are picking up the FUD pace going into the home stretch of voting season. If it were real, Neither the NFL Super Bowl or World Cup planning committees would hold the event without a written and legally supported contract specifying a commitment in that monumental amount. Don’t fear unsupported speculation that one simply posts on the Internet (this place).

Do we know whether or not the city’s taxpayers will end up footing the bill for all public safety costs like other host cities?
Who would give these people $400 million in the form of a bond? Not me! They’ve never identified a problem or a solution. More resident money squandered.
