There will be No Winterfest or Halloween extravaganza at Santa Clara’s Great American this year.
According to a message sent to season pass holders last month, the park will only operate from April 5 to late October in 2025.
“It’s like someone pulled the plug,” Jose Aguirre, 22, of Castro Valley told the LA Times.
“My brother AJ is only 13. I want him to see the Snoopy show at least once. But it’s gone.”
San Francisco logistics real estate company Prologis purchased Great America in 2022.
They said at the time that they would continue to operate the park for 11 more years at the most. But operations could cease before then, and the landowner could also end the park’s lease with two years warning.
The current lease could stretch until 2033 — or end sooner with warning.
Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor told the LA Times that she also dreads the closing of Great America where she worked as a teenager. “If you ask people what they love about Santa Clara, they’ll say, ‘We love Great America,’” she said.

Happy dance. Companies know there is no good doing business in California. Especially in Northern California.
Just what the city needs , more dense housing and shopping malls, we keep taking things away from residents , and the kids will be the ones that suffer , no more park, no more golf and tennis , What major city does not have a Golf Course? Closing GA is also taking summer jobs from kids who are trying to learn about working, and saving money
They actually never said they would run it for 11 more years that’s what people read but it definitely was not worded that way. Go back and read the articles and you’ll see.
I hope the city council keeps it permanently zoned as a theme park. Then the developers won’t be able to convert to more housing.
This worked in foster city where the owners of the skating rink tried to get it rezoned from recreational to commercial. But the city council held firm. The rink was closed for a while but eventually reopened.
We don’t need more housing. We need more places for recreation!
How about a little research? California’s Great America was bought by Cedar Fair. In 2006! After the merger, it’s now owned by Six Flags. Prologis bought THE LAND. So they are the landowners that could end the lease.

It’s sad that the park is closing as it was a place children of all ages along with parents looked forward to take kids on vacation.
Now, the parents will have to travel to Disneyland etc.
San Jose is just growing with more housing and more traffic etc.
