Prosecutors: Convicted Felon and Former Santa Clara Vice Mayor Anthony Becker Isn’t Sorry

By Robert Haugh

Anthony Becker isn’t sorry. That’s the takeaway from recent court filings from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say the convicted felon and former Santa Clara Vice Mayor refuses to accept blame. Becker called his perjury conviction “about politics” and insisted “justice was not served” in his interview with the probation department after he was convicted.

Prosecutors see Becker’s unrepentant attitude as a major reason he should go to jail.

In December 2024, a jury found Becker guilty of leaking a confidential grand jury report and then lying about it.  He will be sentenced by Judge Javier Alcala on March 21, 2025.

Becker leaked the report to the 49ers and the Silicon Valley Voice (SVV), a website that takes substantial advertising money from the team and the City.

The District Attorney’s Office says this shows deliberate misconduct. They accuse Becker of tipping off his biggest political benefactor and working closely with a friendly publication to manipulate the narrative in his favor.

Prosecutors believe the SVV played a key role in assisting Becker. According to the recent memorandum, Becker handed over the secret grand jury report to Carolyn Schuk at the SVV.

Schuk has violated journalistic ethics by writing memos for Becker, and then writing stories related to Becker.

Prosecutors claim SVV then rushed to challenge the credibility of the grand jury’s findings. They say that favor aligned perfectly with Becker’s goals: downplaying the report’s damaging conclusions about his ties to the 49ers and boosting his mayoral campaign image.

Becker allegedly kept up the deception when confronted. He deleted suspicious messages from his phone, used encrypted apps, and concealed links to the SVV.

Prosecutors even say Becker had one of the paper’s editors, Angie Tolliver, act as an intermediary to reach out to the 49ers on his behalf before a DA interview. To them, it’s all part of a strategy to hide the truth and protect a powerful alliance.

Silicon Valley Voice Editors Carolyn Schuk and Angie Tolliver (right) helped Anthony Becker attack the Civil Grand Jury and cover up his crimes.

Becker’s repeated lies hurt more than just City politics. They say he attacked the bedrock of the legal process: the oath to tell the truth. The DA’s office believes it’s especially egregious for an elected official to abuse that trust, leak city secrets, and undermine a grand jury’s investigation.

Adding to the outrage is Becker’s post-trial behavior.

Rather than apologize for his actions, Becker publicly questioned his conviction and claimed it was politically motivated. Becker refused to acknowledge his crimes or his conviction in his resignation letter from the City Council.

Prosecutors say that further shows that Becker feels no remorse for misleading constituents, betraying their trust, and lying under oath.

  1. Of course, Becker will NEVER admit he is wrong and broke the law. He would be admitting the people who helped him are liars and crooks too. Chandick Skunk and Trollop are the beneficiaries of a waiver and first amendment otherwise they’d be scorched. Too bad.

    • Yeah, I’d like to know if Miles Barber is mixed up in this. He isn’t one to sit back and not get involved. Just saying…

  2. This is not a case of some poor teenager caught in gang trouble. Nor is it a case of petty thieves under the influence of Falstaff, or a young Henry V disputing Salic law.

This is a case of a cheap fraud, who arrogantly challenged a good guy like Ron Patrick, and threw off a great coach like Burt Field off Parks and Rec.

Becker is a symptom of corruption.

Ps: Jain, Becker, and Park, the three misguided pawns used the sane consultant in 2024.

    Becker, a petty fool.

    • Don’t forget to add our new council member for district 1. I don’t know that he has done anything wrong as of right now, but I’m guessing it will be as he is in the back pocket of the 49ers. Let’s all watch closely!
