BREAKING: Portion of Santa Clara’s Jenny Strand Park Closed After Suspected Rodent Poison Found

A portion of Jenny Strand Park has been temporarily closed after pellets suspected of being rodent poison were found in the park.

The City said a resident reported the substance on May 11 after their dog ingested some of the pellets. The dog became sick but is now in stable condition.

Parks staff responded immediately, removed visible material and inspected the area. About 5,000 square feet of the park remains closed while cleanup, inspection and investigation work continues.

Residents are being asked to stay out of the closed area and follow posted notices.

The incident has been reported to the Santa Clara Police Department. Anyone with information about the incident, or who saw suspicious activity at Jenny Strand Park, is asked to call Santa Clara police at 408-615-5580.

Other park-related issues should be reported to the Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department at 408-615-3163.

City officials said they are taking the matter seriously. Any suspects who are identified will be investigated, and appropriate charges will be forwarded to the District Attorney for prosecution.
