A previously closed section of Jenny Strand Park was reopened this past week after City staff completed cleanup, inspections, and an investigation into suspected rodent poison pellets found earlier this month.
The pellets were discovered on May 11. Parks staff immediately removed visible material and inspected the affected area and nearby portions of the park.
About 5,000 square feet of the park was temporarily closed while the City investigated.
City staff also inspected parks across Santa Clara after the incident. No additional materials were found. No related incidents were reported.
The incident was reported to the Santa Clara Police Department. No suspects have been identified.
City officials said they will pursue enforcement action if additional information becomes available.
After multiple follow-up inspections, no additional pellets were observed. The City determined the area is safe to reopen.
The reopening ends a short but serious public safety concern at the park, especially for residents with children and pets.
This is good news. It would be great to find the person or persons that did this and hold them accountable. Why would someone want to hurt animals and people?
