San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO Jed York was arrested Sunday in Ohio for solicitng prostitution, according to court records and multiple news reports.
York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, near his hometown of Youngstown.
The arrest is a major and damaging incident for York, the 46-year-old owner of the 49ers.
York is also a major political player in Santa Clara. The arrest will have a huge impact on Santa Clara politics this year and beyond.
York and the 49ers have spent millions of dollars through independent expenditure committees to help elect five current Santa Clara City Councilmembers: Albert Gonzalez, Raj Chahal, Karen Hardy, Suds Jain and Kevin Park.
York was also a major backer of convicted felon and former Vice Mayor Anthony Becker in three of his City elections.
The team is supporting candidates again in this November’s Santa Clara elections. (SCNO is working on major stories about the coming elections.)
According to reports, York responded to an advertisement on a website used for prostitution and arranged to pay a woman $140 for sexual activity.
York traveled to the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, a trailer park in East Palestine, for the meeting.
Instead, York encountered law enforcement officers working with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
York was initially booked on suspicion of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. His cell phone was used to arrange the encounter and considered a criminal tool.
The case moved quickly.
On Monday, prosecutors amended the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct. York pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
York was sentenced to jail time with credit for time already served and ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.
Court records also show that $160 seized during the arrest will be forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
The 49ers and NFL acknowledged the incident Monday. The NFL is expected to review the matter under its personal conduct policy.

No York has taste. Becker was screaming at the meeting last night. He wants body cameras for elected officials. He also has again accused Low and Aherns of drug dealing.
Makes you wonder who the fools really are? Low/Ahrens v. Becker? Why aren’t Low and Ahrens or one of their staffers speaking out? If not? Is it true what Becker speaks? California Now are you paying attention? $$$ v. a failed investment? Ooosh!

Is this Jed York’s fate now? He’s divorcing his wife, hanging with prostitutes (he’s well named – John), gets stung in the process. Let’s hope the NFL make him sell the team. He’s an embarrassment.
Hey, all those out there passing judgement on others who fight to protect the city from the takeover by Jed York…. Where are you now? Haven’t heard from you?? The only one excited is Becker- birds of a feather. Hypocrisy is not a good look. I know Santa Clarans will pay attention at the next election. Reality check…..
Mr. 49er is now almost on the same level, as his buddy Mr. Beaker. True he is not a Convicted Felon (yet), but Mr. York deep down really wants to be an achiever, who knows just how far he may go with all of this. If he keeps this up, at some point he might be looking for a Cell Mate (Roommate) or something like that! How perfect would that be??

No big surprise, Jed York has been paying 5 prostitutes that’s on the city council for years. Now he can spend time with his good soul mate buddy Becker. Or is it cell mate buddy, hopefully the residents can see who he really is.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the 49ers rethink financial support for Santa Clara city candidates this election. With this latest very ugly news, any association with the team or its ownership would likely be a net negative for anyone seeking voter approval. Likewise, any negative ads sponsored by the team would seem particularly hypocritical.
