City Council Preview: Worker Coops, Hunter Storm’s Gateway Crossings Development, and more

By Robert Haugh

Here are some of the major topics for tomorrow’s City Council meeting:

  • A study session will be held on the Worker Cooperative Business Model. A Slice of New York Pizza runs with this model. This is an interesting effort by business owner Kirk Vartan. We’ll have more on this in the future.

  • Jerry R. Patrignani requested an update on the Lawn Bowl Clubhouse Project at Central Park.  The Council last dealt with this about six months ago and decided to fix up the club’s trailer for $175,000. That’s a lot of money for not many lawn bowlers.  But the club wants more.

  • Public Hearing on Hunter Storm’s Gateway Crossings project located at 1205 Coleman Avenue. Actions may include a General Plan Amendment. This is the massive project on Coleman near Costco and Avaya Stadium. We’ll have more on this issue tomorrow.

  • City Staff has written a report about the Charter requirements for the vacancy for Chief of Police. Mike Sellers announced he was stepping down in September and won’t finish his term.
