Best and Worst of the Week in Santa Clara: Howard Myers and Fresno Deputy DA Brian Exline

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award

Community leader Howard Myers wins this week’s Leg Drop Award.

Councilmen Anthony Becker and Kevin Park failed to report their meetings with the 49ers.

They’re required to because of a City ordinance.

One day later, Myers filed an official complaint with the City.

That got Becker to amend his calendar. Kudos to Becker for doing the right thing even if he was forced into it.

Park still hasn’t done it. And it’s been 101 days since we broke the story on his violation. It’s been 192 days since Park’s unreported meeting with the 49ers.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Brian Exline lost his frivolous lawsuit against Mayor Lisa Gillmor. His appeal of an earlier Gillmor victory was rejected, 3-0. Ouch.

Exline wins this week’s Jabroni Award.

The big question is who paid for it. Some community leaders think it was the 49ers

It wasn’t Exline. He was a Santa Clara University Law student at the time. And the lawsuit costs were in the $100,000 to $200,000 range according to local attorneys. Wow.

That’s raising ethical and legal questions.
