Santa Clara City Council Recap: City Council Does Not Make Interim City Attorney Appointment

By Robert Haugh

It was on the closed session agenda last night. But the Santa Clara City Council did not announce the appointment of an Interim City Attorney.

It’s been over a month since the 49er Five fired former City Attorney Brian Doyle at the request of the team. It was for no cause.

Sources in other cities have told us that their deputy city attorneys are not applying. The current Santa Clara City Council looks “unprofessional” in the words of one source. Another said “it’s toxic.”

Even though they couldn’t make an appointment, the City Council did a couple productive things.

Jim Hohenshelt was appointed to the Senior Commission.

Ed Stocks was appointed to the Historical and Landmarks Commission. Cecily Cox and Ken Kratz were appointed to the eligibility list for the HLC commission.

Congratulations to the new commissioners.

  1. The 49er 5 have helped create a city that is becoming hand’s off. Tsk.Tsk. But excellent residents are applying for commissions. Stokes and Cox were good choices for HLC. Kratz was a great cure for insomnia. Speaking of sleep, did anyone notice Karen Hardy nodding off? Just go back to tape around 1:09. It’s precious!

  2. It does raise the question, were there any applicants? How could anyone think this was a good career move unless they were in bed with the 49ers? Or out of work and desperate?
