Special Santa Clara Council Meeting Today to Appoint Interim City Attorney

By Robert Haugh

The Santa Clara City Council will meet today for a special City Council meeting to appoint an interim City Attorney.

As most of Santa Clara knows (and the Bay Area, too), the “49er Five” terminated former City Attorney Brian Doyle for no cause last month. The team wanted Doyle gone. The termination of a City Attorney was a first in Mission City history.

Now, they will need to appoint someone as interim. The meeting will be done in a closed session. But will be reported out afterward.

We heard a rumor that the team is trying to get the City Council to appoint injured 49er QB Jimmy Garropolo so they can save money on his salary instead of cutting him. We don’t believe it. But with the 49er Five, you never know.

Also on tonight’s agenda, the City Council will interview and make a couple of appointments.

They will appoint someone to the Senior Advisory Commission to serve a partial term ending June 30, 2023. And they will appoint someone to the Historical and Landmarks Commission for a partial term ending June 30, 2025.
