Former City Manager Deanna Santana’s Claim Includes Major Allegations Against Santa Clara City Councilmembers

By Robert Haugh

Tonight in Closed Session, the Santa Clara City Council will discuss a claim filed by former City Manager Deanna Santana. It’s a required step for Santana before she files a lawsuit against the City.

Santana claims that she was not paid her severance after the “49er Four” fired her. A successful lawsuit could cost the City millions of dollars.

But there’s more than money at stake. Santana makes some explosive claims.

Santana also believes that certain Council members violated labor laws, discriminated against her, and retaliated against her for being a whistleblower. Wow.

She also claims that a Councilmember made racial slurs against her. According to a reliable source, she’s referring to Councilmember Kevin Park.

Park had to publicly apologize for remarks he made against Santana in March 2022. But Park has not posted his apology on his website as he promised he would 621 days ago.

Santana also claims that Councilmembers created a hostile work environment for her and City staff. For example, she writes about a text between two Councilmembers about how City staff should be afraid of them.

Santana is referring to Indicted Councilmember Anthony Becker and Councilmember Suds Jain according to a review of public records.

Santana’s most explosive claim is about a coverup.

According to Santana, an outside investigator was hired to investigate how a Councilmember was directing City staff.  That’s a violation of the City Charter and a misdemeanor.

But the 49er Five stopped the investigation. Double wow.

This is a developing story and one that could have major financial and political consequences for the City.

  1. Our city will pay millions of dollars in lawsuits for the way the 49er 5 dealt with firing our old city manager and city attorney.

The irony is so thick it can’t by cut by a chainsaw that the 49er 5, whom all represent either women, LGBQT, ethnic, or racial communities, and yet are the best of the VERY worst examples in Santa Clara’s history of the traditionally caucasion “good ol’ boy” network in government being very alive and thriving under Becker, Jain, Chahal, Park, and Hardy’s reign.

In addition, doing some back of the napkin calculations while paying my property taxes yesterday, and given the almost $2 million dollars the 49ers 5 voted for last week to have a senseless special election as well as re-sod the 49ers playground, it would take 2,224 City of Santa Clara property tax paying citizens, paying the equal amount I did yesterday just to pay for these 2 expenditures that are literally stealing money from property tax payers. Good ol’ boy city council members screw the citizens again.

JEFF ROSEN, WHERE ARE YOU AND YOUR OFFFICE IN TAKING ACTION!!!!! PLEASE INVESTIGATE FURTHER

  2. I learned long ago that council members are not allowed to give city staff directions. I’m just surprised if it is only one council member guilty of this.

  3. Let’s. See

    Jain to Miles Barber

[Doyle] “i think he is dumb.”

    March 8 2022

    Jain to City Attorney staff

    “I want 8 positions here.”

    Section 801 violation

  4. I love it. Can’t wait to see how this plays out … Except that I half except though, that she’ll be paid off, with no public disclosure of the details … And the 49er supported city council members will once again, get off scot-free …

  5. The reporting is fairly accurate
Jain and Caserta texted each other in 2021
    Subject
    Santana
Jain promised Caserta that he would “take care of it”
