Happy … or Unhappy Tax Day

If you didn’t know, it’s April 15th … Tax Day.

WWE’s Irwin R. Schyster (IRS) says Happy Tax Day

  1. When I was a commissioner, Lisa, Patty, and Judy stressed that commissioners were volunteers. All three of them as well as Rod, McLemire, Altdyh and even Sue Lasher stressed political views of commissioners were MEANINGLESS. They wanted dedicated and active people. Becker is a worthless coward who picks fights with good people. Who cares what a parks commussioner has to say about 49ers? Their job is to CARE ABOUT PARKS. The city wants active people who care about books. Parks, kids and seniors. Becker cares about Becker. Lisa voted for Becker for Planning. Go figure.

  2. This is not a comment on tax day but rather something completely different that I wanted to vent about.

I get regular messages from different media sources that the City of Santa Clara is looking for citizens to serve on various city commissions. I have an area of expertise that I think would be of value to the city and have thought about applying to be a commissioner. I have also seen how the 49er 5 have publicly humiliated appointed commissioners, those who have applied to be commissioners, or members of the public who have spoken in front of the council and been publicly shamed and embarrassed.

I do not wish to risk myself to public humiliation and therefore will not apply though I would be an excellent candidate for a commissioner and have nothing to hide. I vehemently disagree with the conduct of the 49er 5 and would never receive a fair evaluation by them. I can only imagine the stifling of other potentially excellent commisioners who also choose not to apply for the same reasons.

This is a real issue that has barely been talked about. It is another example of this council stifling basic tenets of democracy. Who wants to be publicly humiliated as a volunteer trying to make Santa Clara a great place again??

    • Potential city commissioner applicants,

I do not think you need to worry about being treated poorly by the city council majority if you are not criticizing them publicly. But if you criticize them publicly maybe you run the risk of them coming after your volunteer position like they did with Burt Field. That of course is a disincentive and wrong but I think the vast majority of commissioners in our city history have not been politically outspoken.

I would not blame you one bit if you did not want to volunteer but I urge you to reconsider if you are not going to publicly speak out against the council majority anyway and do have special skills to offer to our city.
