It’s sooo obvious you are NOT part of this community in any way. Cleary you’re a just a paid public relations stooge for the 49ers. Too many inside facts and too much time to write your white papers about them on here. Crawl back to SF please
CSC once again tells half the story either on purpose or out of ignorance. Yes, SCPD makes more per month than all the other cities mentioned. What is not stated is that all those other departments have retirement packages that pay for most/all of their retired officers medical premiums in retirement. It is well know that SCPD does NOT pay for medical insurance premiums in retirement for their retired officers. I know several retired SCPD officers and they are paying $2,000-3,000 per month for their own medical benefits. SCPD officers who are still working know they need to put away their own money to pay for medical insurance in retirement. Even SJPD pays medical insurance for retired officers for the lowest cost medical plan. CSC really need to tell the entire story instead of what local yellow journalism rags (SVV et al) or the 49ers are telling CSC to fudge facts about.

The base annual salary for regular police officers (not sergeants, lieutenants, captains, or chiefs) averaged $174k in Santa Clara 2023, $156k in Sunnyvale, and $146k in Campbell. That equates to Santa Clara police officers receiving 18.8% more per year than Campbell officers and 11.6% more than Sunnyvale officers. Remember, each of Sunnyvale’s public safety officers must maintain certification as both a peace officer and a firefighter, providing their residents with a higher level of response capability.
According to the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Police Officers Association and the City of Santa Clara: Santa Clara police officers are to be paid at least 5% higher than comparative agencies, and, if paid more, SCPD salaries cannot be adjusted down to meet the average+5%. If the City of Santa Clara were to freeze base salaries for police officers, it would take officers in Sunnyvale and Campbell until 2029 and 2031, respectively, to catch up to SCPD base salaries (assuming a 3% Y.O.Y. annual increase). In that time, SCPD officers would still make more money than their neighboring contemporaries, and, if applied to all ranks in SCPD, the City would realize more than $7,300,000 in savings City Manager Grogan says projects and staff positions are unfunded by. Given our community’s economic standing, the City Council should consider a recommendation of freezing police salaries through at least the end of 2027.
The communist of Santa Clara is at it again. Spewing Jed’s vitriol about the cost of public safety. You couldn’t get rid of the elected police chief in an effort to control scpd so let’s plant this defund the police propaganda. Keep it up. The residents have spoken. They love their public safety. They saw what happened at Dodger Stadium when public safety was cut. And there’s already been one knifing at Levi’s. Does someone have to die for you to get the message?
@Adam. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt are the only responses you have? Santa Clarans are a lot more emotionally mature than you and won’t fall for it. I’ll give you credit for this, though: you packed all that FUD into one very concise message. Almost like you had it at the ready to try and strike fear into the heart and mind of every reader. However, to the educated, your response is so immature, an adolescent explanation of communism is likely needed, so here it is…

Nothing is communist about peace officers employed by the City of Santa Clara being paid 18% more than similar roles in the adjacent city. From all crime reported data, the City of Santa Clara is middle of the pack among all communities in Santa Clara County. However, Santa Clara is known for its kleptocracy as residents aren’t provided with the necessary personnel or financial support to deliver basic community services or accomplish community projects because one group of employees earns so much more than all the others. Don’t you find it interesting how the biggest endorser of Lisa Gillmor is the very group of union employees (SCPD) who earn significantly more than their peers throughout the state?
Paying peace officers the same as similar roles in adjacent jurisdictions is not “defunding the police”, it’s funding them at a competitive rate. The vast majority of police officers who staff Levi’s Stadium are ‘double-badgers’ who work for other entities, picking up extra cash in a SCPD uniform during events, and guests would be just as safe if peace officers were in SJPD, SCCSO, Campbell, Sunnyvale, or Department of Fish and Wildlife uniforms. Peace officers employed by Santa Clara are no better than peace officers in San Jose or the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Dear Communist of Santa Clara, or “CSC,” there is no need for effeminate discourse.
Just proclaim that it is an aim for some lunatics to “defund” the police–against most Santa Clarans approval of our brave fighting men and women of the police and fire department, among other first responders.
Why not opine on the salaries of the Sity Manager and Sity Attorney????
