Two weeks ago, convicted felon Anthony Becker returned to the Santa Clara City Council chambers and unloaded a ten-minute grab bag of conspiracy theories. 

So Santa Clara News Online did what any responsible local news outlet would do: a reader poll.

The question was simple: out of a list of absurd possibilities, which ONE did readers believe Becker actually said at Tuesday’s meeting?

The winner: the “ketamine sting” scenario was actually the one Becker claimed at the City Council meeting. 

It’s likely that many SCNO readers and survey respondents tuned in to the meeting that night and caught it.

In the poll, 40 percent of respondents picked the option claiming Becker suggested a well-known local elected official tried to give him ketamine. 

For the record, Becker accused former Assemblymember Evan Low and his top aide at the time, Patrick Ahrens, of setting him up as part of some movie-style sting operation. (Ahrens is now an Assemblymember, succeeding Low).

Second place went to Becker getting pissed off at Jed York for stiffing him on Super Bowl tickets in exchange for a leaked Grand Jury Report. 

Another 20 percent chose the Library Commission answer.  

And 10 percent went with the “give me my laptop back” angle so Becker can play Fortnite.

Two options got no support at all. Readers weren’t buying that District Attorney Jeff Rosen was in the “Epstein files.” They also weren’t convinced that Becker was speaking up to defend Councilmember Suds Jain from a possible recall.
